NEUROSPIN / Imagerie in vivo chez l'homme, ex vivo et in vitro, IRM 11.7T

Technological platform

Description

The scientific objectives of the 11.7T MRI in vivo imaging platform are to

-Visualise the human brain at a previously unattainable spatial resolution: "mesoscopic" scale (~100 microns).
-Discover new contrasts.
-Explore the possibilities of very high sensitivity molecular imaging.

This will be made possible by an MRI scanner with exceptional characteristics:
-Magnet operating in non-persistent mode for better temporal stability,
-Main coil composed of individual coils of "double wafer" design for better spatial homogeneity,
-Two active shielding coils,
-Magnetic field: 11.75 T,
-Stored energy: 338 MJ,
-Current: 1483 A,
-Inductance: 308 H,
-Cryostat length: 5 m,
-External diameter: 5.2 m,
-Internal diameter of the magnet tunnel: 90 cm,
-Weight: 132 tons.
